As we end Week 4, Korowal and our connections have had an illustrious week. We were proudly entertained by three of our recent graduates who performed and wrote for the production of ‘Breaking Bread’ at Wentworth falls School of Arts last weekend. Following on from their tertiary drama studies, Jade Fuda, Aeva O’Dea and Olivia O’Flynn have developed into fine professional theatre practitioners. Then this week, the preview of ‘Cul de Sac’ was shown at the Fairmont. Michael Joy, an alumni parent, has been working on this pilot for 3 years. Jas Ryan (Year 11) and Helena Zadro Jones (Year 12), are both in this film. The performances, production, filming, cinematography, design, sound/music, and locations are beautiful, honest and hauntingly evocative. Michael deserves to be pleased as punch! So too do Jas and Helena!
This week has showcased the fabulous resilience, commitment and communal effort from teachers & staff that keeps Korowal chugging along. We have had numerous illnesses and injuries that have required extra duties from our staff, and additional relief teachers to step in. Everyone has been ready to do what is needed each day.
This week Year 5 attended camp at Hill End, which was a wonderful experience for them all. Year 6 attended the Gala Day, and the high school held our Biennial Cabaret.
Welcome back to our lovely school. What fun surrounded us in Week 1! The crunching of autumn leaves resounded at the entry, with piles of dry leaves luring children at every passing.
The last week of Term 1 was so busy that most of us fell into the break. On the last Thursday, our Year 5 and 6 students had the pleasure of attending a workshop with 3 sculptors who are exhibiting in the Scenic World Sculpture Exhibition. The children reflected and created around the theme of change: transitions from primary to high school. Talulah and Amanda accompanied them to this day of creativity and by their reports, they all had a splendid time together. There are photos and a summary published on our Korowal facebook page.
The rain has created waterfalls at Korowal in Week 7, with huge volumes of water cascading down the rocky embankment from the staff carpark to the back driveway. As one primary teacher stated, ‘I can’t compete with that!’, and the students were in awe of the volume of water both outside and inside the window frames as the gutters back flushed.
This week the sunshine was welcomed by us all. Colour and energy bursts were features of this week. It was glorious to hear singing and laughter bouncing off the trees as the children played in primary, raced about the ball court or sat beneath the trees in high school.
Week 5 had a rainy start and a rainy end, with lots of rain in between. That's a lovely thing as our grounds look beautiful and the birds are singing a symphony between showers. We want to thank the children for coping with being indoors for most of everyday, and for adding colour to otherwise grey and misty landscape.
